Assignment #1 Venus of Willendorf
For this first assignment I approached the creation of my own Venus through the scope of Time. I have always saved and cherrished fine pocket rocks. In fact for the past five years I have always had the same one. For this project I used first a piece of glacially turned granite of which I have a pile in my kitchen. First I polished the bottom, or the palm side, I like the tactility of the smoothe surface. I then carved the symbology into the face of the stone. At this point I was interested in furthering this idea, which led to the Walnut. Which essentially I was most impressed by the natural contrast.
