Gesture + context sensitive UI on input device

May 2007. Microsoft Hardware User Experience Group.

Task & goal : To leverage new technology by researching and designing a novel device with gestural & context adaptive UI.

Process:

Research:
I conducted the research through organizing focus group workshops, reviewing previous reports, consulting experts, etc.

Insight:
1, everyday gesture vocabulary within different scenarios.
2, technology constraints & opportunities.
3, the ancester of this type of tool. how similar tool is being understood and used in history, its affordance, the intuitive and natural interaction the shape of the device hints.

Concept:
I identified more specific goals, tasks and prioritized scenarios.
I created personas, storyboards, iterated flowcharts, and prioritized functionality.

Prototype:
I experimented low fidality paper prototypes to get the flow right and keep user test & iterate.
I delivered wireframes, specifications and visual assets to a flash prototyper and worked with model shop & an electronic engineer to prototype the hardware.
I directed and shot the video demos.

This series of prototype demos have been showed in Science Fair 2007.
