Solar jewelry is an investigation into the potential of wearable solar powered technology. Inspired by the fashionable qualities of electronic components and the minimal design of BEAM circuits, solar jewelry combines beauty and elegance with wearable solar powered gadgets.
Pictured are two prototypes of solar earrings. Each circuit has 10 .5V mini solar cells connected in series to give us a possible 5V of charge in direct sunlight.
The first circuit is a simple Miller Solar Engine powering an LED. The LED blinks in relationship to the amount of direct sunlight on the solar cells, the more sunlight the faster the LED blinks.
The second circuit is nocturnal. The circuit charges in direct sunlight and lights the LED in low light or indoor conditions.
When finished the earrings will be created out of custom printed circuit boards and be small enough to attach to the most delicate lobes.
