meditation 3: mining earthquakes
Seismic data from the united states geological survey for December 26, 2004 off the coast of sumatra is read from 15 different depth levels from within the earth. Exact latitude and longitude coordinates are given for each reading containing the amount of slip and rake at that location. Thirty 30 samples that were taken at 15 depth levels spanning only 220 seconds, at which time the seismic instruments failed.

I started with audio from one of the common home movies shot during the tsunami.
I mapped the position of the audio within a quadraphonic space to latitude and longitude of each reading.
The gain of the sample was mapped to the amount of slip, the pitch to the reading depth, and the size of the sample loop to the amount of rake.
Using only the top, middle and bottom depth readings I moved through each set of readings over a span of 220 seconds.
