*Monday Morning Maintenance is done in the labs from 9am-Noon

Note About Floor Hours: Late Night

ITP officially closes at Midnight, every night.

However, on occasion, the ER Staff may extend the Late Night privilege to the broader community working on the floor. This allows the floor to remain open (ER and Tools Shop closed) for up to an addition 2 hours. The floor must be closed down no later than 2:00AM.

Late Night is a privilege given to the ER Staff. They are not paid between official closing and 2AM. Their decision to stay late and extend that right is up to them alone and they should never be pressured into doing it. You should always PLAN on ITP closing at Midnight and be pleasantly surprised and gracious when an ER person is able to keep the floor open a little later.

The reason ITP closes at Midnight, is that based on many years of past experience, the community and the floor benefit from a period of down-time each night. It guarantees that the floor has a recovery period each day so that it can remain a safe and productive environment. The open, creative environment risks being unmanageable if we are open on a 24 hour basis. What's more, the quality of life and health of the community members would be at risk of burnout.

Use of Public Spaces:

ITP tries to maintain a balance of development space and presentable gallery space on the floor at all times. While we want to encourage your eager development of new projects and pieces we do ask that you follow these simple rules:

  • Please refrain from storing personal belongings, project materials, food, beverages, etc. on the tops of lockers. Any items found on locker tops will be discarded. Locker tops are cleared every Monday morning during MMM and as needed throughout the week.
  • Please store only approved materials in designated areas: i.e., the shelves in Physical Computing or the shelves in the Long Lounge. All materials should be labeled with your name and contact information on the ORANGE Gaffers Tape in the Physical Computing Shop.
  • If you would like to set up an installation on the floor temporarily for development, user testing or to demo to a class or audience, please contact Rob Ryan via the ITP Helpdesk (itp.helpdesk@nyu.edu) for setup. Please provide a time frame, dimensions, and tech needs list when emailing. All approved setups must include signage near the project explaining its intended purpose and its status.
  • The use of harsh cehemicals, varnish and paint are not permitted on the floor

Only certain approved materials are permitted to be used on the floor - i.e, Gaffers Tape (NEVER DUCT TAPE), nails, screws, anchors, etc. Before doing anything on the floor please run it by Rob Ryan.
