You Got a Problem?
Recording directly into Audacity
- To record into Audacity, you plug a microphone into the MBox. If it is a mono microphone, you only need to plug it into 'source 1' on the back of the MBox. A stereo mic will require you to plug it into both source 1 and source 2.
- Make sure that the button labelled "48 V" on the back of the MBox is selected.
- Open Audacity and make a new audio track.
- In Audacity's preferences, under Audio I/O, make sure the input is set to Digidesign MBox. Make sure the playback is set to built-in audio.
- First check the levels by speaking into the microphone and adjusting the levels on both Audacity and the MBox. Start by adjusting the settings on the MBox - make sure the source on the MBox is set to Mic (There are three options - Mic, Line, Inst)
- Press record in Audacity and you should be able to see the waveform for the sounds you are making. If not, read this again and make sure you have all the settings right.
Recording directly into ProTools
- Start by plugging in the microphone as described above into the MBox.
- In ProTools, check the input source. If it is a mono mic, set it to Mic/Line1. Press the "R" button to record enable a track. Make sure no other tracks are record enabled, unless you would like to record onto multiple tracks. Press record and then play, and you should be seeing the waveform for the sounds you are making.
